Feeding: frequently asked questions
How many baby bottles do I need?
For a formula-fed baby, four to six bottles is standard so you always have a clean one while others are sterilising. Breastfeeding mums who pump usually manage with two or three bottles plus storage bags.
Do I need to sterilise baby bottles in Nigeria?
Yes. Sterilise all feeding equipment (bottles, teats, breast pump parts, pacifiers) for the first 12 months. In Nigeria, where tap water is not always potable, an electric or microwave steriliser is the safest and easiest option.
When can I start using bottles with a breastfed baby?
Most experts recommend waiting until breastfeeding is well established — usually 3 to 4 weeks — before introducing a bottle. Start with a slow-flow teat to mimic breastfeeding and avoid nipple confusion.
